Birchfield, Ruth Taylor Clay

June 26, 1924 - August 20, 2010

When God decided it was time for Joveda and Janeva to be born, he searched the whole world and found the best “Lady” he could to be our Mother. Ruth was a hard working wife and mother who always put her little girls above all else. Born June 26, 1924 during the hardest of times, she knew what it was like to do without and worked her whole life to see that we never had to endure what she did. She loved her garden and worked tirelessly to have green beans by the Fourth of July. During the last five years of her life she was bed ridden and was cared for lovingly by her family along with the nurses from Extend a Care and two special ladies Brenda and Debbie whom she loved. She had her morning coffee watching her two favorite programs Bob Smallwood and Bobby and Sheila Stanley. Her day just didn’t start right without them. She was preceded in death by Husband of 48 years and father of her two beloved daughters Dennie Clay and second husband Clarence Birchfield, Father Jim Taylor and her mother Mable Taylor; brothers Ronnie, Olen, Roma, Shelby, Paul, Billie and David Taylor; sisters Mary Tyree and Vivian Stewart and step-sisters Sadie Phipps and Icie Dickens. She leaves behind two daughters Joveda Bailey and husband Wayne of Dameron, WV and Janeva Clay and husband James of Fairdale, WV; eight Grandchildren: Linn Sheik of Beaver, WV, Dennie Scott and wife Janice of Liberty, NC, Dana Scott and wife Tina of Dameron, WV, Sheila Darby and husband Glen of Beaver, WV, John Darby and wife Ginger of Louisa, VA, Phillip Darby and companion Amber of Orange, VA, Christina Clay and husband David of Dameron and Robin Darby and companion David Black of Sandlick and a step-grandson Gary Clay of NC. She is also survived by 28 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and a sister Goldie Dameron of Glen Daniel and by a special sister-in-law Jackie Taylor of Beckley. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday, August 23rd in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ardeth Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call Sunday evening from six to eight pm at the funeral home.
