Hamilton, Lola Miriam

On Thursday, August 26th, 2010 in the early hours of the morning our most beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Lola Hamilton passed away at the Bowers Hospice House. She was in her 91st year. Lola Miriam Clark was born on January 8, 1919 at Mossy Bottom, Kentucky, one of nine children born to the late James Crit and Sarah Alice Owens Clark. Lola is the last survivor of her immediate family. She was of the Baptist faith. For many years, Lola and her husband Oscar were the owners and operators of the Hamilton Hotel in Oceana and the Highland Motel in Covington, Virginia. Oscar Conley Hamilton died on December 2, 1974. Lola and Oscar were the proud parents of nine children. They are Jim and Janet Griffith of Southport, NC, Janive Leonard of Norfolk, VA, Tom and Linda Hamilton of Piney Flats, TN, Donna and John Denando of St. Louis, MO, Linda and Joe Robinson of Providence Forge, VA, Ron Hamilton of Daniels, Wanda and Doug Ball of Daniels, Saundra and Ted Philyaw of Charleston and Karen and Larry Albright of Salisbury, MD; she the doting “Grandma Lola” to 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Lola’s son-in-law, Allen Leonard and her grandson, Michael Leonard have preceded her in death. In her later years as Lola needed medical attention she made her home at Greystone Inn and Hidden Valley Estates where many wonderful people aided in her care. A special caregiver, Wilma Schoolcraft, became like family and was always there when needed. On Saturday, August 28th at 10:00 a.m. we will remember the life of this great lady with a Service of Remembrance at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Vondie Cook Sr. will be officiating. Lola will then be taken to the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Prestonsburg, Kentucky for a committal service at 3:00 p.m. where she will be laid to rest beside her dear Oscar. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the mortuary and one hour prior the services on Saturday. The family suggests that donations of sympathy can be made to the Bowers Hospice House, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802 At the end of the day when we her family recall Lola we remember, “Our Mother, a great source of love and inspiration, she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Her greatest joy was found in family and her faith.”
