Cochran, Dixie Ann
August 28, 1937 - November 13, 2009
God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around her and whispered, “Dixie, Come with me.” And so, in the early morning hours of Friday, November 13, 2009 our beloved, Dixie Fortner Cochran of Harper went to be with her Lord following a long illness. She was 72 years of age.
Born Dixie Ann Fortner on August 28, 1937 at Marion, Virginia she was one of eight children born to the late John W. and Catherine L. Snider Fortner. Brothers, Willie and Roy also preceded her in death.
A resident of Harper the past 13 years, Dixie lived for many years at Cool Ridge. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, her family wants you first to know that Dixie Cochran was a Christian. She was a member of the Bible Wesleyan Church at Crab Orchard. Dixie loved to sing and play the autoharp, raise her flowers and her chickens, which she immensely enjoyed.
On December 24, 1953 Dixie married her devoted husband, Earnest C. Cochran who survives her. The precious Mom of four daughters, they are Vicki Sue Richardson and her husband Gene of Harper, Catherine Milam and her husband Doug of Cool Ridge, Kathy Barker who died in 2008 and Priscilla Jane Pinson who died in 2005. Oh Glad Reunion! To think, Mother and daughters are reunited. Her son-in-law, Jerry Barker survives at Glen Daniel and her son-in-law, Roger Pinson died in 2007. The doting grandma of seven grandchildren, Steven Barker of Pluto, Scott Richardson of Princeton, Melissa Barker of Shady Spring, Theo Richardson of Prosperity, David Richardson of Sophia, Timmy Barker of Eccles and Jennifer L. Demoss of Harper; the great grandmother of eight great grandchildren: Dustin, Briana, Marisa, Hanah, Michael, Justin, Aaron, and Kirstin; the fond sister of Buddy Fortner of Beckley, Jackie Fortner of East Liverpool, Ohio, Jane McDowell of Beckley, Emma Dafoe of Washington, Ill. and Catherine Wood of Eccles.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 18th at 1:00 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Gary Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Her grandsons and a son-in-law will serve as pallbearers. |
