Claypool, Ella

October 27, 1918 - January 15, 2012

This past Sunday, January 15th, 2012 our beloved mother, Ella Claypool and as her grandchildren lovingly called her “ Our Mountain Granny,” passed away at the home of her son, Rodney Claypool and his wife June, in Chesapeake, Virginia. She was in her 93rd year. One of twelve children, Ella Hager was born on Oct. 27th, 1918 at Broundland. Her parents were the late William Riley and Vallie Ora Kirk Hager. Her sisters, Edith Holstein, Eva Rutski, and brothers, Ted, Clark, Jesse, Randolph, Daniel, Michael, Frank and Jack have preceded her in death. A sister, Anthem Walker survives. Ella was a longtime resident of Bolt where she was a member of the Breckenridge Baptist Church. A homemaker, Ella enjoyed quilting in her leisure time. Ella would marry Homer Claypool. To this union was born three sons, John, Nathan and Rodney. John Claypool died on Dec. 3, 1986. Homer died on June 22, 1992. In addition to Rodney and June, Ella leaves her son, Nathan of Bolt to cherish her memory. “Mountain Granny” was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Nathan Michael, Kimberly Gail, Erica Juanita and Pamela Lynn. Sadly, granddaughter, Denise and grandson, Brandon has preceded her in death. Four great grandchildren also survive. This was a very good old lady. Hardworking, faithful to her Lord and Savior, devoted to her family, Ella Claypool will long be remembered. On Thursday, January 18th at 11:00 am we will remember Ella’s life with a service at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Ella’s pastor, Rev. Dewey Lowe will be officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5 to7 pm at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Ella will then be taken to the Claypool Family Cemetery at Bolt where she will be laid to rest beside Homer and John. “Oh Glad Reunion .” Condolences may be sent to the family’s guestbook at www.meltonmortuary.com.
