Smiley, Randolph Michael
November 24, 1929 - January 21, 2012
On Saturday, January 21st, 2012, our cherished, Randolph Michael Smiley passed away at the Bowers Hospice House. He was in his 82nd year.
Known affectionately as “Mike” all his life, he was born on Nov. 24th, 1929 in Charleston, the son of the late Russell Randolph and Helen Gould Smiley.
Mike was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a 1963 graduate of West Virginia University School of Mining Engineering where he graduated with high honors. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers in Korea. Mike was employed by Westmoreland Coal Company and was retired from JO Lively.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 52 years, Vivian Virginia (Smokey) Stover Smiley; he was the beloved father of Michael Kirk Smiley and his wife, Natalie of Pittsburg, PA and Warren Russell (Russ) Smiley of Charlottesville, VA; the fond brother of Shirley Schuffman of Nashville, TN; and the dear grandfather of Minda Nicole Smiley of Pittsburg, PA and Theresa McLinden Wright of Long Island, NY; and the uncle of Jan and Julie Schuffman of Nashville.
Funeral services will Wednesday, January 25th at 3:00 pm at the United Methodist Temple. Pastor Chuck Pullins will be officiating. Mike will then be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the service hour at the church. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
