On Monday, February 6th, 2012 our most loved, Edith Ward Lilly of Sprague went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was in her 90th year.
Edith Louise Ward was born on Dec. 3, 1921, at Corrine. Her parents were the late Chesterfield and Minnie Lou Shinall Ward. Brothers, Chesterfield “Bubby” Ward Jr. and Garland Ward and a sister, Roxie Meadows as well as a half brother and sister, Frankie Ward and Bessie Jones have preceded her in death.
Edith attended the Glenview Regular Baptist Church. A homemaker, she loved to sew and make quilts.
Edith was married to the late Denver Lilly. To this union was born seven children, Russell and Charles “Buckie” Lilly and a daughter, Linda Dumayas have preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are her surviving children, Diana Leach and her husband, James, Mary Eastman and her husband, Dennis, Carol Helmondollar and her husband, Danny all of Beckley, Millie Curry and her husband, B.C. of South Carolina; a sister, Francis Daniels of Texas; a brother, Ralph Ward and his wife, Jean of Beckley and a half sister, Janet Fortner of Beckley. Edith was the dear MaMaw of 17 surviving grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 8 great grand children. A granddaughter, Pamela Kay Isley has preceded her in death. Edith had a special caretaker, Violet Baker and among her grandchildren, Tonya Shumate was good to visit her.
On Thursday, February 9th at 1:00pm we will remember the life of Edith Lilly at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Elder James Leach and Pastor Danny Helmondollar will be officiating. Edith will then be entombed in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8pm and one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
