Atha, Charles

January 25, 1917 - February 13, 2012

Charles Thomas Atha, who resided for many years at Heartland Nursing Home, passed away at the age of 95. He was born on January 25, 1917 at Harper, WV and died at Raleigh General Hospital on February 13, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Dean Wiseman Atha; mother and father, Icie Williams Atha and French Atha; brothers, Dallas and Walter Atha, and sisters, Lessie Price and Bessie Stover. Those remaining to cherish his memories are his sisters, Betty Burgess and Hallie Peters, both of Lower Sandlick and stepbrother, Bobby Stover of Clear Creek. There are also many nieces and nephews who will remember how great a man he was. Tom was a very kind and considerate person who loved the outdoors. Those who knew him definitely had a special place in their heart for him. Special thanks go out to the 4-South nursing staff at Raleigh General Hospital and all the nursing staff at Heartland Nursing Home. Services will be conducted at Melton Mortuary by Rev. Larry Kinder on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Pallbearers are Rusty Simmons, Darrell Peters, John Paul Peters, Delbert Peters, Euel Webb and Ben Richmond. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
