Charles L. Beard, 65 of Hinton, formerly of Stickney, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010 in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born on January 10, 1945 at Montcoal, Raleigh County, he was the son of Generva Greiner Beard of Charleston and of the late Nelson C. Beard. Charles was a disabled employee of Armco Mines at Montcoal and had attended Marsh Fork High School. In addition to his mother, survivors include a brother Frank Beard of Beckley and five sisters: Dorothy Graybeal of Lester, Mary K. Armstrong and Maude Sweeney both of St. Albans, Doris Withrow of Columbus, OH and Gloria Saddler of Charleston. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 27th in the Sylvester Baptist Church, Sylvester, WV with the Rev. David Minturn officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV. Friends may call Tuesday evening from six to eight pm at the Melton Mortuary, Beckley and one hour prior to the service time Wednesday at the church. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
