He was 72 years of age. Jim as he was affectionately known all his life was born James Earl Hoke Jr. on May 25, 1937, the first of three children born to the late James Earl and Mable Ballard Hoke Sr. Jim spent his childhood at Montcoal and attended Marsh Fork High School. He settled in Brunswick Ohio where he was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 32 years. Jim was a member of the United Auto Workers. A hardworking man, he also worked as a maintenance man at the Laurel Hill Apartment Complex in Brunswick after he got off work from Ford. Even his hobby was work, Jim loved to mow grass. He was of the Christian faith. After retiring from Ford in 1989, Jim and his beloved wife of fifty years, the former Dolly Harvey returned to Raleigh County, settling on Sumac Lane. Jim and Dolly have had a good life, but they have endured great loss with the death of their two sons, Jimmy and Stevie. They are blessed to have three granddaughters, Kim Cox of Charlottesville, NC, Emily Powers of Parma, OH and Elizabeth Parker of Brunswick; they are the proud great grandparents of Kylie and Collin; left to cherish his memory are his brother and sister, Frank Hoke and his wife Mary of Whitesville and Patsy Conkle and her husband Freddie of Roseville, OH; the fond son-in-law of Maude Cole of Cleveland and the good brother-in-law of Bobby Harvey; wonderful neighbors surround Jim and Dolly on Sumac Lane, among them, Pete Webb who has been of such great help these past weeks during Jim’s illness.
