Morgan, Vernon Burb

June 12, 1928 - February 04, 2010

On Thursday, February 4, 2010, our beloved, Vernon B. Morgan of Hoo Hoo Hollow, Lester, died at Princeton Community Hospital following a three week illness. He was 81 years of age. Born Vernon Burb Morgan on June 12, 1928 at Isaban in McDowell, county, he was the 4th of five children born to the late Burbage and Virgie Allen Morgan. His sister, Irma Lester and brothers, Madison and Ray Morgan also preceded him in death. Vernon spent his childhood at Isaban. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. A resident of Lester the past 37 years, he was of the Christian faith. A coal miner, Vernon had over 40 years in the mining industry, retiring from AT Massey, Elk Run Division. He was a member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge #95 AF & AM. A talented blue grass musician, his children and many friends would meet weekly at his home to play bluegrass. Vernon was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Joan League Morgan on August 9, 2007. Left to cherish his memory is his children. He was “Dad” to daughter, Verna Leadbetter of Lester, and sons, Jim Morgan and his wife Linnie of MacArthur, Donald Morgan his wife Missi of Glen Daniel, Matthew Morgan, Greg Todd and Brian Todd and his wife, Dee Dee all of Lester; the doting Paw Paw of eight grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren; the fond brother of Velma Foster of Atlanta, GA; a large extended family, many neighbors, friends and musicians. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 7th at 1:00 p.m. in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dale Birchfield officiating. Committal services will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Matheny. The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of the service on Sunday. Pallbearers will be family members and friends. And so now we must say goodbye. “His memory is blessed.” Although gone from our sight, forever in our hearts you will live.
