Barone, Anna Marie

July 26, 1919 - February 25, 2010

On Thursday, February 25th, 2010 our much loved Anna Barone passed away at the Hidden Valley Center in Oak Hill. She was in her 90th year. Christened Anna Marie DiCiuccio, Anna was born on July 26, 1919 near Messina, Sicily, the daughter of the late Angelo and Gaetana Gugliotta DiCiuccio. Her brother, Toney preceded her in death. Anna came to the United States at the age of three, settling with her parents in Raleigh County where she lived her entire life. As a young adult, she became a naturalized citizen. In May of 1946, Anna married Frank Anthony Barone. They were longtime residents of City Avenue, where Anna was the proprietor of City Avenue Grocery. She later worked at Leeds Department Store. A woman of quiet faith, Anna was a devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she faithfully attended until her health began to fail. Frank and Anna eventually moved to McTaggart Drive, they enjoyed living there for many years. Frank died on December 7, 1999. Anna was the precious mother of Anthony Angelo Barone of Chicago, Illinois; the devoted “Grandma” of Jill Marie Fugit of Tampa, Fl, Dr. Matthew Franklin Barone of Albuquerque, NM, and Dr. Rachel Ann Brandenburg of Middletown, DE; the proud great grandmother of Carolyn and Ryan Fugit and Mason and Leah Barone; the dear sister-in-law, of JoAnn DiCiuccio of Roseville, MI the sweet aunt of six nieces and nephews in the Detroit Michigan area; Anna was blessed to have in her life her good neighbors and special friends, Jack and Cheryl Fairchild. At the end of the day when we remember Anna Barone we recall a gentle spirit, who loved to cook and enjoyed the love and fellowship of her family. Her memory is blessed. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Fr. Joshua Stevens as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at the Sunset Memorial Park where Anna will be laid to rest beside her beloved Frank. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. A Vigil Prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by Rev. Mr. Donald Wise. The Fr. John Halpin Council 5657 of the Knight of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.
