Ash, Emogene White

February 22, 1919 - March 02, 2010

On Tuesday, March 2, 2010 our beloved Emogene Ash passed peacefully from this world after a long and good life. She was in her 91st year. Born Emogene White on February 22, 1919 at Bolt, “Gene” as she was affectionately known all her life was one of 10 children born to the late James Preston and Etta Worley White. The last survivor of her immediate family, brothers, Lowell, Preston and Clinton White and sisters, Myrtie and Kermith White, Hesper Thornton, Icie Price, Edith Coldiron and Merle Sweetburg preceded her in death. Emogene Ash has had a wonderful and active life. Last summer at the age of 90, she put out a garden. A lifelong resident of Bolt, Emogene lived her life for God, Jesus Christ and her family. She was such a friendly woman; it’s as if she knew everybody in Raleigh County. A very dedicated member of the Glen Fork Church of God, she worshiped there for over 30 years. In her leisure time she enjoyed quilting. Her husband, Howard Melvin Ash preceded her in death in February of 1979. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Emogene was “Mom” to Alonda Calloway and her husband, Clyde of Bolt, Delano Dean and his wife Pat of Beckley, and Sue Jones and her husband Harry of Fairdale; the doting Granny of Melissa Lilly and her husband Ron and C.W. Coots II and his wife Aimee; five step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; a large extended family, many neighbors, friends and her church family. Funeral services will be Friday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Stapleton officiating. We will then take Emogene to the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. “Oh Glad Reunion.” The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the services. Pallbearers will be: Ronald, Chris, and Adam Lilly, Butch Flinchem, Delano Dean and Leon Stover. Honorary pallbearers will be C.W. Coots II and J.R. Farmer.
