On Tuesday, March 2nd , 2010 after a long life dedicated to helping his fellow man as a teacher, neighbor, and a good friend to many people, Tommy Worley of Surveyor passed away peacefully at the Hill Top Center. He was in his 82nd year. Born Thomas Keith Worley on May 10, 1927 at Surveyor, “Tommy” as he was affectionately known all his life was the first of three sons, born to the late John A. and Winnie Daniel Worley. Brothers, Robert (Bobby) and William (Billy) Worley preceded him in death. Tommy has been a lifelong resident of the Surveyor Community. A graduate of Trap Hill High School, Class of 1946 and Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston), he became a teacher. Tommy and his family worshiped at the Breckenridge Baptist Church at Bolt. What an interesting man Tommy Worley was. He never met a stranger. He had friends throughout Raleigh County. An outstanding gardener, he loved to cook. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family. A dedicated school teacher, ‘Mr. Worley” taught at Eccles Elementary for many years, where he no doubt touched the lives of many young people as they prepared for their journey through life. Left to cherish his memory are first of all his nieces, Patricia Ryan and her husband Roger, Sarah Manning and her husband Nathan all of Surveyor, Nancy Newman of Kimberly and Kathy Worley; several great nieces, nephews, cousins, many old friends, neighbors, his church family and former students. On Saturday, March 6th at 3:00 p.m. we will remember the life of Tommy Worley in a service of Thanksgiving at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Dewey Lowe will be officiating. Tommy will then be entombed at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
