Reeves, Billy Travis

November 14, 1928 - March 03, 2010

God saw he was getting tired and a cure was not meant to be and so he whispered ever so softly, “Come Billy, it’s time to be with me.” This past Wednesday afternoon, March 3rd, 2010, in the comfort of his own home, Billy Reeves went to see his Lord and Savior and his beloved wife, Glenna. He was in his 81st year. Born Billy Travis Reeves on November 14, 1928 at Seth, he was one of 11 children born to the late Willie Golden and Jessie Loretta Patton Reeves. Sisters, Mabel and Sybil Reeves and brothers, Cecil, Cledith, Buddy and James Reeves preceded him in death. Billy spent his childhood in Stanaford and Beckley. He worked in the coal industry for 27 years, was employed at Phoenix Dye in Cleveland, Ohio and retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education Vocational Center where he was the custodian. An avid roller skater into his sixties, Billy as a young man was skating at the Stanaford Skating Rink when he met a pretty girl. Her name was Glenna Mae Meadows. They would celebrate 57 years of marriage before her passing. Billy loved Glenda with all his heart. And now, “Oh Glad Reunion.” Anyone who knew “Brother Bill” knew even before his wife and children, he loved the Lord first. He was a devoted member of the Gospel Church on C&O Dam Road for over 35 years. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mark Reeves and his friend Fred Marrs of Charleston, Rick T. Reeves and his wife, Ginger and Randy E. Reeves all of Marion, North Carolina, a son, David Lee Reeves preceded Billy in death; he was the doting Papaw of ten living grandchildren, a granddaughter, Erica Janeene Reeves also preceded him in death; there are 13 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; Billy’s faithful “grandogs,” Piper and Sugar; he was the fond brother of Carl Reeves of Racine, Wisconsin, Darrell Reeves of MacArthur, Chester Reeves and his wife Frances of Stanaford and Roy Reeves and his wife Barbara of Shady Spring; a large extended family of nieces, nephews, many friends, and his church family, among them, Donna Lykins, Margaret Meadows and John Grose. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 7th at 1:00 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Pastors, Eddie McNeely and Luke Richmond officiating. Billy will then be taken to the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Glenna. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 to 9p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Sunday. Pallbearers will be his nephew, Danny Ratcliff and church members, John Grose, Rusty Richmond, John, Mason and Bill Smith Jr.
