Bailey Jr., Thomas Crockett

On Thursday, March 4th, 2010, our beloved, Thomas C. Bailey Jr. of Old Mill Village died at the Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. He was 62 years of age. Born Thomas Crockett Bailey Jr., “Tom” as he was affectionately known all his life was born on April 21, 1947 in Welch, West Virginia, the son of the late Thomas Crockett and Edna Mae Harless Bailey Sr. Tom spent his childhood in Davy. He graduated from Welch High School, Class of 1965 and West Virginia University in 1970 with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent seven years in the West Virginia Army National Guard as a 1st Lieutenant. Employed by US Steel for 31 years as an electrical engineer and maintenance manager, he retired in 2000. Since 2005, Tom has been employed by Jan Care. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Toni Melodia Bailey; he was the precious Dad of Daryl Bailey of Mabscott and Melinda Wasilik and her husband Ken of Oklahoma City, OK; the fond brother of Betty Roberts and her husband Dr. Don Roberts of Abingdon, VA, Mark Bailey and his wife Linda of Briar Creek, Jim Bailey of Huntsville, AL; the fond uncle of Christi Chisholm and her husband Torre of Portland, OR, Misty Mahoney and her husband David of Richmond, VA, Jennifer Bailey and nephew Eric both of Briar Creek; many friends, former mining co-workers and the employees of Jan Care. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 14, at 3:00 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Tom’s sister, Pastor Betty Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening at the mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Sunday.
