Roger Ryan Obituary

“I am standing on the mountain I can hear the angels' songs I am reaching over Jordan Take my hand, Lord, lead me home.”
On Saturday, November 26, 2022, Roger Ryan was led to his forever home, to spend his eternity free of pain and made whole again.

Roger was born on October 27, 1945 in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Ronald Ryan & Garnet Covey.

He spent his childhood in Glen Daniel, WV before joining the United States Army. Roger spent years working in the coal mines before starting his own successful business, Dynasty Hydraulic & Machine, which gave so much back to his community. Roger enjoyed fishing and flying ultralight aircrafts; and in his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time watching westerns from his recliner and spending time with his family and his cats, Bindi and Macy.

After the death of his wife Patricia, Roger and his family were blessed beyond measure when he found Thelma Carpenter, who became his new life partner, fiancée, and the joy of Roger’s life.

Along with his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ann Ryan, his sister Ronetta (Charles) Frye, his stepfather Weir Covey, his stepmother Naomi Ryan, his mother-in-law Yvonne Statzer, and his granddaughter-in-law Emily Zupanick.

Roger leaves behind a large group of family and friends who will treasure his memory until they meet again, including his fiancée and partner Thelma Carpenter; sisters Lou (Bob) Wills and Darlene (Paul) Bragg; stepsister Hazel Bolen Canady; sisters-in-law Sara (Nathan) Manning and Nancy Newman; a son, Jeff (Melissa) Ryan; a daughter, Lisa (Missie) Ryan; grandchildren Aaron Ryan, Ashley (Kyle) Thompson and Matthew (Katie) Ryan, and Tori (Jordan) Snuffer; and great-grandchildren Karmyn Thompson, Kane Thompson, and Adalynn Snuffer.

In addition to the many people who were so special to Roger, the family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to his special friends Craig Daniel, Tommy Covey , Johnny Bowman, Ardeth Bailey and Randy Dillon. The family would also like to thank the staff at Bowers Hospice House for the love and care that they showed Roger and his many family and friends that were by his side in his final hours.

A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Melton Mortuary at 1:00 PM with Ardeth Bailey officiating. A visitation will precede the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. According to his wishes, Roger will be cremated and interred alongside his wife at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia -Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Dr., Beckley, WV 25801.
