Catalino Sermonia Cendaña, Sr. (Ninoy), 86, of Scottsdale, Ariz., who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, passed away peacefully in hospice care on May 16, 2019.
Ninoy was born on Nov. 25, 1932, in San Nicolas, Pangasinan. He was a graduate of the Manuel L. Quezon University School of Law. A jack of all trades, Ninoy was a family attorney, financial planner, court stenographer and interpreter, an insurance company Chief of Claims and an award-winning underwriter, dubbed as a Million Peso Producer during the rise of his career. He opened his own insurance agency and organized an alliance of agencies.
Ninoy was a devout Catholic and community leader who raised funds to build a church in his neighborhood. He formed and led civic and religious organizations in the Philippines and the US.
Ninoy loved to sing and dance, play tennis and squash and watch boxing matches, musicals, Westerns and action films. He played the ukulele and was a member of an all-male chorus.
Ninoy is predeceased by his first two wives, Fe Febuna in 1955, Gracia Ramos in 1974, and his daughter, Czarina Janelle “Ging Ging” in 2016.
Ninoy is survived by his wife, Estrella, and his children, Fe (Antioch, CA), Mae Torlakson (Pittsburg, CA), Catalino Jr. “Bio” (Stockton, CA), Audrey (San Francisco, CA), Lisa Lee (Hercules, CA), Michelle Bond (San Francisco, CA), Cathrina-Marsha Dagdagan (Antioch, CA), Cherie Monique (Millbrae, CA), Christopher Joseph (Ona, WV), alongside an abundance of loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, siblings, nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, May 30th at 11:00 am at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley WV. The Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Sebastian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Melton Mortuary Chapel.
