Dewey W Dixon, 66 longtime resident of Flat Top Lake, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at his home following a long illness. Born February 17, 1952 in Logan, he was the son of the late Dewey Jay and Gladys Dixon of Logan, WV. Dewey was proud of his Logan heritage and his Hatfield genes.
He is preceded in death by his 4 sisters and 1 brother.
Dewey was a graduate of Logan High School and West Virginia Tech with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and recognized as Brother of the year in 1974. While in college he met and married his wife of 47 years, Diane Duran Dixon.
Dewey was instrumental in youth sports, coaching T-ball, baseball, basketball and midget league football. In his later years he was a troop leader for the Bradley Brownies and girl Scouts. He worked as an electrical engineer, sold insurance and owned and operated muffler city in Beckley until his retirement. Dewey was known for his outgoing personality and has never met a stranger. He will be missed by a large circle of friends.
Dewey was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Beni Kedem Shrine, Scottish Rite and the Royal Order of Jesters.
In addition to his wife Diane, he is survived by his children Brandy Swinney and her husband Thomas of Martinsville, VA, Dewey Dixon II living out West, Tiffany Monette and her husband Hunter of Fort Bragg, NC and brother-in-law Ricky Duran of St Albans, WV and numerous extended family.
The family would like to thank our Flat Top Lake family, John Graham and Andrew, the Ghent Fire Department and Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
Family, friends, and other whose lives were touched by Dewey are invited to celebrate at Melton Mortuary of Beckley with long time friend, Pastor Billy Pate leading the celebration. Services will be held at 7 PM Thursday February 21st, 2019. Friends may call until from 5 PM until the time of service on Thursday.
