Shrikant L. Bembalkar, MD
Dr. Shrikant Laxman Bembalkar 74 of Beckley, West Virginia died suddenly on Friday, November 15th, 2019.
Born on February 14th, 1945, in Bombay, India, he was the son of Mr. Laxman Bembalkar and Mrs. Yashomait Bembalkar.
Dr. Bembalkar completed high school from Balmohan Vidyamandir in Bombay and was a graduate of GS Medical College in Bombay. Following his medical school graduation, he came to the United States and completed his internal medicine residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Bembalkar then completed his Pulmonary Fellowship at the National Jewish Hospital and Research Center in Denver, Colorado.
In 1973, Dr. Bembalkar moved to Beckley to work at the Southern West Virginia Clinic in which he became the president. Later Dr. Bembalkar joined Access Health on January 20th, 2004. He was still practicing there until his passing last Friday..
On October 19th, 1974, he married Mary Gale Aldrich in Billings, Montana. They have one son, Gireesh Bembalkar.
Dr. Bembalkar was involved with several community projects, among them was bringing classical Indian music to Colorado, Virginia and West Virginia. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Beckley; Friends of the Raleigh County Library; the Beckley Community Concert Association and the Beckley Area Foundation .
In addition to his parents, Dr. Bembalkar was preceded in death by his brother, Shashikant Bembalkar.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 45 years, Mary-Gale; dear son, Gireesh; his sister-in-law, nephews and two sisters; Dr. Bembalkar is also survived by Mary-Gale’s family, the Aldriches. Dr. Bembalkar had a special loving relationship with the family dog, “Sigi.”
Memorial services will be held at the Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 pm. The family will be receiving friends at 4:00 pm
