Judy L. Jarrell, 66, of Beckley, WV, died peacefully on Jesus’s birthday at Bowers Hospice House following a short battle with Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD).
Judy is preceded in death by her loving parents, Conley “Burl” and Carrie Wagner, and her brother Conley Wagner.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Phillip T. Jarrell Sr., Sons Todd Cornett with Daughter-in-law Rachel, Phillip “Tab” Jarrell, Jr., and Daughter Kerri Beth Jarrell. Her grandchildren Todd Cornett II (Chelsey), Tristan Cornett, Chino Nakamura, and Skylinn Jarrell. Her great-grandchildren Layla and Joseph Cornett and Eastyn Nakamura. Nephews Keith Wagner, Tommy Wagner and Steve Wagner. Nieces Bambi Gladfelter, DO, and Balei Wagner. Her cousin and lifelong best friend, Drema Koontz.
Judy graduated from WWHS in 1970 and then went on to attend and earn an A.S. degree from Beckley College. She had a long career as Office Manager for Richard G. Starr, MD. Upon his retirement, she became the secretary of Bradley Elementary where she was affectionately known as “Miss Judy” or “Mamaw Judy” to many more grandchildren than her own. Over her career, Judy was considered the most cheerful secretary in the county, answering the phone with kindness and a joyful heart that made the day of all that called. Judy was well loved by all who knew her. Her smile, kind heart and compassion made her a beautiful friend.
Judy’s most defining role in life was that of a wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved completely and without reservation. Judy could always be found at sporting events supporting her husband, a many times over champion coach, while also being the loudest cheerleader in the stands for her children and grandchildren. She was most at peace on a balcony, overlooking the water, or gazing out the window at the falling snow, enjoying a good book.
Services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, December 31st, 2019 in the Melton Mortuary Chapel at 1200 Harper Road in Beckley with Pastor Clif Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call on the family from 11 am until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
