On Friday, April 12, 2019, our most cherished, Kelmer McMillion passed away. He was in his 82nd year.
A native of Lester, and one of twelve children, Kelmer Gene McMillion was born on May 10th, 1936. He was the son of the late Taft and Mary Peters McMillion. His siblings, Kenneth, Shirley, Freda, Judy, Ella Lou and Jimmy have preceded him in death. He is survived by brothers, William, Luther, Jerry and sisters, Mary Legg and Linda Hughes.
Kelmer will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, Paw Paw and brother. He retired from the coal industry. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the guitar. Kelmer loved blue grass music.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife, Drema O’Neal McMillion on October 19th, 2004. Kelmer and Drema married on October 17th, 1940. To their union was born, Debra McMillion Watson, Terry McMillion (Ruth), Stephen McMillion ( Debby), and Kevin McMillion (Mary). Daughter, Robin McMillion Smith passed away in 2018, her husband, Garlin survives.
The grandchildren are Jeremy Stover, Johnathan Brett Stover, Rebecca Smith, Jacob Smith, Aden Gunter, James Riley and Kari McMillion. A great grandson, Zackary Stover survives as well.
On Wednesday, April 17th, at 1:00 pm there will be a “Service of Remembrance” in the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Ardeth Bailey will be officiating. Kelmer will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family will begin receiving friends at 11:00 am on Wednesday morning.
