Morgan Richardson Obituary

On Wednesday, April  24th, 2019, surrounded by his loving family, Morgan Richardson passed away peacefully.   He was in his 85th year.

The first of four children, Morgan Lee Richardson was born on November 22nd, 1933, at Maple Meadow.  He was the son of Rev. John Morgan and Wavie Clay Richardson.  His sister, Margie Ellison (her husband George survives) has preceded him in death; Morgan is the fond brother of Betty McMillion and her husband Bob and Bruce Richardson and his wife, Patty.   A large extended family survives as well.

Morgan grew up in the community of Surveyor at Lake Stephens on the family farm.   He was a 1952 graduate of Trap Hill High School.  He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in July of 1953.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. Morgan worked in the coal industry for a number of years.   On 1956, May 22nd, Morgan married the loved of his life, Rose McGinnis.   In 1973, he opened a marina at Lake Stephens, Lakewood Marine.

To Morgan and Rose’s union was born six children, Morgan L. and his wife, Bessie; Robert and his wife, Karen; Dean and his wife, Vivian; Ames and his wife, April; Katrina and her husband,  Blaine Furey; Verna and her husband, Chris Schmitt.  There are nine grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and step grandchildren.   A great- granddaughter, Marianna has passed. 

Morgan and Rose and their family worshiped at Akers Baptist Church.   In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was an avid bowler for the past 60 years.   A talented singer and accomplished writer of songs, Morgan and Rose had a family music band, “Across the Miles.”

Morgan will be remembered as a quiet and gentle man.  He loved his Lord and family unconditionally.                 

 Memorial Services will be Saturday, April 27th, at 2:00 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel.  The Rev. Ardeth Bailey will be officiating.  The family will receive friends at 12 noon.
