Norma Calfee Obituary

Norma Jean Calfee 93, of Daniels, WV passed away on July 2, 2019 following a long illness.  Born April 7, 1926 in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Florence Webb Hodge and Roy F. Hodge.  Mrs. Calfee spent her childhood in Beckley and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.  She married Thomas Jackson Calfee Jr. of Princeton, WV on June 10, 1956.  Norma Jean lived with her husband and daughter, Tomi in Huntington, WV and Chesapeake, Ohio before returning to Beckley in 1969.  She was an employee at C&P Telephone company before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She later went to work for the Raleigh County Board of Education where she retired. She was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley, WV where she sang in the adult choir, taught children’s Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School in the summer.  She enjoyed all crafts, particularly embroidery, painting and quilting.  She also loved to read and enjoyed that until she died.

She was a perfect example of how to lead a happy life.  She was a devout Christian and lived her life by example, always giving to others.  No matter the situation, she always had a smile on her face and was thankful for everything.  She was always complimentary to others and thanked everyone for the smallest gestures.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her brother Roy Robert (Bob) Hodge Sr. of Kingston, TN, and an aunt near her same age, Eleanor L. Webb of Beckley.

Survivors include her daughter, Tomi Jean Calfee Lilly and her husband Philip, both of Daniels, WV and her granddaughter, Katelyn Leigh Lilly of Charleston SC, all of whom she loved dearly.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Imogene Hodge, niece, Carol Jean (Jeanie) Hodge Brown and her family, and nephew Roy Robert (Bobby) Hodge Jr. and his family, all of Kingston, TN, as well as two cousins, Nancy K. Lucas and Jack Williams and their families, all of Beckley.

Pallbearers are Aaron Cline, Blaine Udy, Mike Lilly, Michael Lilly, Danny Gallaher, and Mike Mays.
