Vevitia H. “Veda” Carman, 86, of MacArthur, died Sunday, June 16, 2019, following an extended illness.
Born February 17, 1933, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Miskel and Elsie Jane Scarborough Eller.
Mrs. Carman spent her childhood in Fitzpatrick, attending Hollywood Elementary School and Woodrow Wilson High School.
After graduation, she spent several years in retail working in area shoe stores. She and her late husband James R. “Jim” Carman later owned and operated a Meat Packing Plant in Alderson, WV. They also worked with various area Auction Houses and later started their own company, Crown Auction in MacArthur.
She was a member of the Hollywood Missionary Baptist Church, where she had attended since its founding in 1939. There she had been a member of the Choir, secretary of the Ladies Circle and had served on various committees and boards.
She was preceded in death by her husband James R. “Jim” Carman, an Infant son, Michael Dean Carman, a son James Kent Carman and wife Charlotte, brother Miskel Earl Eller and wife Charlotte, sister Gloria Mae Cawley and husband Lowell, Oliver D. Eller and wife Ruth.
Survivors include her son, Kevin A. Carman, grandson Brandon K. Carman, her very dear friend Pat Sizemore, “Grandsons” Jason Lively and Rex Casto, her treasured Yorkie Kelly, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Hollywood Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Luray Street in MacArthur, WV. Pastors Andrew Bailey and Tom Wallace officiating. Entombment will follow in Blueridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 hour prior to the service at Hollywood Missionary Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Carman, Jason Lively, Rex Casto, Brian Cawley, David Eller, and Charlie Tony.
