To know her was to experience the sunny side of life. A mother to many. She never met a stranger. She always greeted you with a generous smile and laughter. Our “party girl” was many times the life of family/friend gatherings. Young at heart. A songbird like no other, her harmonies always tickled our ears.
Alice Virginia was born July 9, 1935, to Norman Morgan and Della Lockhart Morgan Gwinn.
In 1956, she married Ernest Cozart. A lifelong homemaker, she along with Ernest, parented four children, Twins/Joey and Jimmy, Sherry, and Russell (Rusty). She was a born again believer in Jesus Christ and nurtured her family in the Baptist faith.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchild brought her joy and she loved each of them dearly.
She made her journey to meet her Savior on May 11, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father - Ray Gwinn, her husband, four brothers - Benny Morgan, William, Tommy, and Stevie Gwinn, sister - Betsy Gwinn Pack, infant grandchildren - Justin and Ami Jo Holdren, and grandson - Joshua Cozart.
She is survived by her children, Joey (Carla) Cozart, Jimmy (Donna) Cozart, Sherry (Eric) Shawver, and Rusty (Jackie) Cozart; grandchildren, Timothy (Ashley) Holdren, Hanna (George) Funk, Andrew Cozart, and Elijah (Kaylee) Cozart; great-granddaughters, Makinleigh Holdren and Makayla Holdren (coming soon); sisters, Patti Jo Miller and Mamie Swiger; brothers, Johnnie Gwinn and Jackie Gwinn. As well as, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, and a close long-standing friend, Sherry Pauley.
Due to the recent Covid-19 virus, the family has opted for a private service to be held at the Sunset Memorial Gardens on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Reed Green, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hospice of Southern West Virginia P. O. Box 1472 Beckley, WV 25802-1472.
