Anna Jarrell Obituary

Anna "Annie Mae" Jarrell, 89 of Fairdale passed away peacefully at Hospice of Southern WV, Bowers Hospice House on June 15, 2024, after a long and active life
Born January 27, 1935, Horse Creek, WV. She was the daughter of Sidney and Bertie Jarrell. She graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1953. She would go on to work various service personnel jobs with the Raleigh County School System which she retired from after 25 years of service; the last 15 years being a secretary at ACT. She was a member of the Southern States Women's Auxiliary as well as a board member on the USDA Southern Soil Conservation District, for over a decade.
She enjoyed family, friends, and farming. She would tell you about checking on the cows, what was growing in her garden or flower beds, or what she had just canned. She loved baking and when you went to visit, depending on the time of day, you were greeted with warm homemade biscuits or cornbread and if she came for a visit, she would always bring a homemade pie. When her children were young, she had a milk cow that she milked by hand, providing raw milk, butter and buttermilk to the family plus selling to neighbors. She also provided family and friends baskets of vegetables from her garden each summer.
The family reunions at either Horse Creek or Dry Creek over the years provided so many happy memories. She was always taking pictures of the things that were most dear to her and sending copies to family and friends. She enjoyed the phone calls and visits from nieces, nephews, and friends. An example, Wilma Howard faithfully called her on Sunday evenings, and she would look forward to hearing "news" from Florida .
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roy, and daughter Roberta Jarrell. Anna was from a family of twelve children, her brothers and sisters included Mabel, Marshall, Beulah (Mam), Sidney, Lora, William (Bill), Scott (Coach), Lemmie, Virgil, Linda and Curt that had all preceded her in death.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sister in-laws; Carol Jarrell, Linda Witherspoon, and Betty Milam; her children Rosita Maley (David) and sons Glenn Jarrell and Gary (Shannon) Jarrell; grandchildren Brad (Jacqueline), Perry, Brooklyn, and Brayden; great grandchildren Grayson, Jackson, Addison, Ellie and Cole plus many more extended family and friends.
A viewing will be at Melton Mortuary, Beckley, WV, Sunday, June 23 at 12:00 pm followed by a "Service of Remembrance" at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor Dewey Lowe.
