Betsy Watts Gillian Obituary

Betsy Lynn Watts Gillian, age 70, of Grandview, West Virginia, was called to Heaven on April 6, 2026. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and Grammie, Betsy will be remembered for the deep love she gave her family, the laughter she brought to those around her, and the steady faith that guided her life.

Born on April 26, 1955, in Charleston, West Virginia, Betsy was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1973. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and June Watts, and by the love of her life, her husband, Charles Barron Gillian.

As childhood sweethearts, Charlie and Betsy built a beautiful life together, one rooted in God, family, and service to their community. Betsy was a devoted homemaker whose life's work was caring for and strengthening her family. She had a remarkable gift for interior and exterior design, creating beautiful rooms and outdoor spaces with a style and grace worthy of a magazine. Her life was also marked by hard work and a steadfast work ethic that were evident to and admired by all who knew her. She was our protector. Her strength, love, and fierce devotion made her family feel safe, supported, and deeply loved. She poured her heart into the home she created and into the people she loved, leaving behind a legacy of fierce love, laughter, beauty, and determination that will live on through them.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: Charles Richard Gillian and wife Kimberly of Spring Hill, Tennessee; William Watts Gillian and wife Heather of Beckley, West Virginia; and Stephen Michael Gillian and wife Jennifer of Beaver, West Virginia.

She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Gage Barron Gillian (Mya) of Amherst, Virginia; Stevie JoAnna Gillian of Fishersville, Virginia; DevVin Lynn Gillian of Spring Hill, Tennessee; Christian Lewis Gillian, Emma June Gillian, and Truman Nicholas Gillian of Beaver, West Virginia; and Reed Watts Gillian and Jane Abygail Gillian of Beckley, West Virginia; along with her great-grandson, Jackson Dean of Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Also left to honor her memory are her dear sister, Melissa, and husband Joe of Chesapeake, Ohio, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were made better by knowing her.

A celebration of Betsy's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. The family will begin accepting visitors at 12:00 pm. Arrangements are by Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center of Beckley.
