Betty June (Furey) Eubank Obituary

After a long and full life, Betty June (Furey) Eubank, 92, of Glen Daniel, WV, stepped into eternity at 4:26 AM on June 19, 2025, at Beckley Healthcare Center.

Betty June Eubank was born on September 17, 1932, in Raleigh County to Vess McVernon Furey and Myrtle Sue (Feury) Furey. She was the middle daughter, with two brothers, Robert and Carlos Furey. She lost her father at the age of 13 in a coal mining accident and was raised by a strong-faithed mother who remained a widow until her death at age 99.

A brown-headed and green-eyed beauty, she caught the eye of a newly enlisted Air Force serviceman, Ernest Wayne Eubank, while she worked as a phone operator. Right before Ernest was shipped off to Asia, they were married on June 8, 1952, and quickly became a family of three with the addition of Gary Wayne Eubank while Ernest was still serving overseas. After his return, they became a family of four with the birth of Karen Elaine (Eubank) Acord. Betty and Ernest were married for 69 years, until Ernest’s passing in 2021.

An avid crocheter, wonderful cook, and word search whiz, Betty worked in retail at Stone and Thomas when it opened in Beckley, WV, for several years. She became the first cashier hired in 1979 at Rick’s Supermarket in Glen Daniel, where she worked until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of the Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang tenor in a quartet alongside her husband, who sang bass. In her later years, she traveled in a fifth-wheel camper with Ernest Wayne, finding contentment wherever she went. When her grandchildren came to visit, there was always food being prepared and an extra place setting at the table. It can be argued that she made the best catfish in the county.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Wayne Eubank, and her son, Gary Wayne Eubank. This woman of quiet strength and patience leaves behind many family members, friends, and loved ones. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Elaine (Eubank) Acord, and son-in-law, Alan Russell Acord; her grandchildren, Samantha (Acord) Taylor and spouse Robert Edward Lee Taylor II, Christopher Alan Acord and spouse Alice Nicole (Savage) Acord, Tammy Eubank, Jordan Brown and spouse Carol, Angie Hecker; and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Clifford Eubank Jr. (Dorcas), sister-in-law, Carol Jean Garber, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty recently said that she was ready to go home to Heaven. At a young age, she had placed her faith and hope in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Betty lived her life with the belief that Heaven was her ultimate destination.

The service for Mrs. Eubank will be held at Melton’s Mortuary on June 21, 2025, with visitation at 12:00 PM and service at 1:00 PM officiated by Reverend Dewey Lowe.  Burial will take place privately at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of Beckley Healthcare Center and Hospice of Southern WV for their kind and compassionate care.
