1933 - 2021

Oak Hill

Betty Jo Partain, 88, of Oak Hill, WV, passed away from a short illness on Thursday, April 8, 2021.

She was born on March 28, 1933, in Montgomery, WV. She was the daughter of the late Alex Ferguson and Madeline Ferguson Allen.

Betty was a graduate of Collins High School Class of 1951 in Oak Hill, WV. After high school, Betty worked for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia, as a reservationist. She then married her soulmate and best friend, Avis Partain in 1952. When Avis got out of the Air Force, he went to college at Glenville State with Betty by his side. After college, they returned to Oak Hill where Betty went to work for the Fayette County Board of Education. She eventually retired after spending many years as an administrative assistant.

Betty was loyal member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church since 1968. She was very active on many committees and also worked in the church office. She loved her church family and the Lord and had a heart like Christ.

Betty’s family meant everything to her. She loved her girls, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. Recently, she loved spending time on the boat and watching her great grandchildren play.  She had a love for animals, especially her current dog Maggie. There was always a dog or two in her home. Betty loved playing cards, games and attending concerts at the WV Symphony with her very special friends. She loved a challenging crossword or sudoku puzzles. Betty also had a love for sewing.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Avis L. Partain.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters Leslie Partain Smith and Laura Partain Lofthouse and husband Bob; grandchildren Bradley White and wife Ashley, Ashley White,

Robyn Bilderback and husband Todd, Casey McClung; her great grandchildren Carson, Lucas, Kinsley, and Lilah Jo; and sister-in-law Betty Carmichael.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be scheduled at a later date at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Red Devil Alumni Association or the New River Humane Society.
