Obituary

Betty “Bet” Williams

On Tuesday, July 7th, our most cherished, Betty Jane Williams of Beckley went to see her Lord and Savior at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.   She was 72 years old.

The fourth of seven children, “Bet” as she was affectionately called was born on May 26th, 1948, at Justice.  She was the daughter of the late Wilson and Dolly Perry Adkins.  Her sisters, Mildred Adkins, Anita Peters and Lisa Allen have preceded her in death as well.

Betty spent her childhood at Justice.   She attended Gilbert High School.  A resident of Beckley the past 25 years, Betty attended Pikeview Christian Church.

Betty will be remembered for playing the piano, making people laugh, working cross word puzzles and most of all the devotion to her family.  She has immensely enjoyed reconnecting with long lost friends and extended family on Facebook.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving husband, Rickey Dean Williams; she was the beloved mother of Tony Lester and his wife Judith of Buffalo, Cindy Lester of Winfield, Darren Lester and his wife, Donna of Winfield. Her firstborn, daughter, Tammy Lynn Lester perished in an automobile accident. Betty is the proud grandmother of Shanna Snyder and her husband Shane, Emma Lester, Allie Lester, Dustin Donohoe and his wife, Haley, Jordan Lester and Peyton Lester.  There is one great grandchild, Drayson Donohoe.   She is the fond sister of June Wistrand and her husband, Wayne of Boca Raton, Florida, Johnny Adkins and his wife, Debbie of Pounding Mill, Virginia, Joanne Steele of Charleston, West Virginia and Jimmy Adkins of Leesburg, Georgia.  Betty also leaves Rickey’s family Sidney and Beck Williams and Brian and Mary Williams.

A “Service of Remembrance” will be Monday, July 13th at 1:00 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel.  Rev. Paul Zutaut will be officiating.  The family will be receiving friends at 12 noon.   The burial is private.
