Bonnie Jean Smith

Bonnie Jean Smith was born on October 1, 1957 in Oak Hill, WV to her parents Harmon and Rosie Elizabeth (Evans) Smith. She passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family at her bedside on July 6, 2026. She was 68 years young.

Bonnie was truly one of a kind. She never met a stranger she couldn't turn into a friend, and if you stopped to talk, you could count on staying awhile. She had a gift for conversation and could talk the head off just about anyone lucky enough to cross her path.

She loved all things shiny and beautiful, and there wasn't a sale she didn't appreciate-although, truth be told, sometimes it didn't even have to be on sale. If she wanted it, she wanted it. That was just who she was.

She was as hard-headed as they come, but her stubbornness was matched only by the love she had for her family. Fiercely loyal, endlessly caring, and never afraid to speak her mind, she left an impression wherever she went.

While our hearts ache with her absence, we find comfort in imagining her reunited with the love of her life, Billy. We can picture her finally wrapping him in a long-awaited hug, telling him just how much she missed him, and then immediately ringing his ears off with stories about everything he missed while they were apart.

Her laughter, her stories, her stubborn spirit, and her love will live on in all of us. She was colorful, unforgettable, and deeply loved-and she always will be.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Billy Lee Smith; parents Harmon and Rosie Smith; brothers Herman Smith, Oscar Smith, Ottie Smith, and Silias Evans; and her sister Shirley Tincher.

She leaves behind to forever cherish her memory, her daughter Crystal Lynn Bolen and her husband Kepple E. Bolen of Jumping Branch; son Jason Stanley Morris of NC; daughter Karen Vaughn of FL; grandchildren Haley Lynn Remy and her husband Brandon of White Oak; Ashley Vaughn and her significant other John of FL; Sydney Vaughn of FL; Michael Vaughn of FL; great-grandchildren Everson Remy, Briar Ayers, Rosaline Freeman, and a great-granddaughter on her way. She also leaves behind her brother Harmon Smith and his wife Betty of Greentown; sisters Ruby Elkins, Jane Allen, Tena Tincher and her husband Steve Tincher all of Greentown; and many extended family and friends who will miss her. She also leaves behind her best canine friend, Toby and her dear friend Janice.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Bonnie's sister, Tena for all of her love and support during this difficult journey.

The family will receive friends for visitation 12-2 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. A celebration of Bonnie's life will begin at 2 pm with Pastor Ronald Sears officiating. Bonnie and her loving husband Billy will be laid to rest at the Smith Cemetery, Greentown, WV following services with family and friends serving as pall bearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia in Bonnie's memory.
