Obituary

Brenda Lou Browning, 70 of MacArthur WV passed peacefully at Bowers Hospice House on Saturday, April 15th, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Holden WV to Carl Adkins Jr. and Glenna Zornes of Chapmanville WV who preceded her in death. She was survived by her siblings; Janet Adkins- Jewell of Logan, Deborah( Robert) Johnson of Danville, Patricia Gollihue of Verdunvill, Carl(Skibo) (Kathy) Adkins of Mount Gay, and Crystal (Ed) Wagner of Bunker Hill, three children Teresa Horton of Mullens, Katherine Young (Christopher Freeman) of Beckley, and Stephen Browning II (Heather Goodwin) of Lynchburg VA, six grandchildren Taylor Olivia Browning Young who she held for the first time at her passing, Hunter and Kaci Horton of Birmingham AL, Fisher Horton, Issak Young, Dakota Young, and Bryson Hutchinson all of Beckley are left to cherish and forever hold her memory close.

Brenda graduated from Logan High School, and Bluefield State with a bachelor of science in Nursing. She worked as a nurse for greater than 50 years with most of her career at the behavioral science unit at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley.

She grew up in the Logan area of WV, and was the oldest of her siblings. Her father was a coal miner and Mother was a stay at home mom during Brenda's childhood, and went on to share her ability to make her delicious rolls in a local nursing facility after her children were grown. Her siblings described her as fun and always up for an adventure. They were all very close and spent much of their time laughing and giggling in a shared bedroom. She taught them about high heels and fancy food. She married and went to Marshall University. She came back to the Logan area to raise her children. She was always quick with homemade chocolate chip cookies and a glass of Kool-Aid. After her children got older she went back to college and earned her nursing degree. She loved her job working in the mental health field. She touched countless lives with her gentle, patient voice, and ability to mentor others. Brenda loved to paint, garden, and walk for countless hours on the beach or anywhere in nature. Many family members have recounted the story of when they first went to the beach and all of them included Brenda and her sunrise or nighttime walks on the beach.

A celebration of life will be in her honor on April 29, 2023 at Richmond's Meadow Creek Hideaway in Hinton WV from 12:00 Noon-3:00PM.

Words of Comfort and Condolences may be offered to the family on Brenda's tribute page.
