On May 5, 2020, Carlos E. Burnside, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
Born July 7, 1976, in Beckley, WV, Carlos was raised on Mandy Bone Hill in Naoma, WV. He worked in construction, building structures such as Wal-Mart stores and was a certified climber and did tree work with Asplundh for several years.
Carlos loved life. His laugh was contagious and he gave the best bear hugs. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He was at home on the river and it provided him with peace and happiness. He enjoyed gardening and he always made sure he fed the many squirrels living in his back yard. He was also a talented mechanic and worked on and rebuilt vehicles. When he couldn't be outside, he enjoyed building model cars and was preparing one to enter into a contest.
Carlos was preceded in death by his father, Carlos Burnside Sr., his mother, Marliane Burnside and his sister, Chellie Burnside. He is survived by the love of his life, Amanda Williams and his "little lovecat," Alexis Sears of Beckley, WV. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister, Shannon Burnside and partner Vernon Clower of Glen White, WV; Nieces Samantha Burnside and partner David Workman of Rock Creek, WV, Alexius Cox and partner Mathew Flati of Beckley, WV, Nikki Jean Baptist and husband Nelson of Maryland, Kandace Wood and husband Melvin of Lester, WV; and Nephews Benjamin Cox II of Beckley, WV and Vernon Clower, Jr. and partner Amy Martin of Beckley, WV. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and extended family.
Carlos will be missed by Amanda's family: Alex and Melody Williams of Artie, WV; Michelle Lloyd and partner Johnnie of Beckley, WV and Tamara Rahal and husband Jonathan of Beaver, WV. He also shared a very special bond with Danny "Big Dan" Workman, who served as a second father figure to him and with Harold "Boots" Curry.
Carlos had big plans for the rest of his life and we are saddened that he will be unable to do them but we know that he lived life to the fullest and was determined the last two years to make his life the best it could be. He will be greatly missed by many but the memories we have will be everlasting.
A memorial service to celebrate Carlos's life will be held at a later date.
