Carrol "Butch" William Motley III, age 66, of Mount Hope, West Virginia, passed away after a long battle with illness on Sunday, August 17, 2025 surrounded by family.
He was born October 16, 1958 in Minden, West Virginia, a son of Carrol Motley and Nora Vicars. Butch married the love of his life, Patricia "Trish" Ellen Crouch, and spent 22 wonderful years together before his passing.
Butch started his working life at Napa Auto Parts; where he spent 20 years. Then he went to work for Alpha as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He worked for them for 20 years before retiring.
Butch loved spending his free time riding his motorcycle and being with his family. He also loved to take Trish on impromptu riding trips that they could enjoy together. Butch and Trish loved each other dearly and they built a wonderful life together; creating many happy memories.
To Butch, family was everything. He showed his love by making time for his children and grandchildren. Butch spent as much time as he could with them. He filled their lives with love and memories that they will hold on to forever.
Butch loved his dogs. He and Trish had many together over the years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carrol Motley and Nora Vicars; grandson, Taylor Williams; and a special friend, Freddy Clay.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Trish Motley; children, Aaron (Jenna) Motley, Lindsay Garrett, Merranda (Eric) Williams, James (Vicky) Redden, and Kevin Redden; grandchildren, Emily, Jaelynn, Trenton, Bentley, Briley, Baxley, Walker, Clayton, Olivia, Trinity, and Shane; great-grandchildren; Jaxson and Braxton; brothers, Donald (Pam), Benny, Timmy (Kim), and Jack; sisters, Roxanne (Johnny), Barbara (Victor), and Melissa (Brian); and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A Memorial Service will be held for Butch at Crossroads Apostolic Church in Mount Hope on Saturday, August 23rd at 1:00 PM. The doors will open for a visitation at 12:00 PM. Pastors Tim Vicars and Roger Frye will be officiating the service. All those who want to come out to honor Butch and show support to his family are invited to attend. Any flowers for the family should be sent to the church.
