On January 16, 2024, Cerena Gail Cox was called to her Heavenly home unexpectedly while at home. She will be sadly missed by her husband and son, siblings, friends and extended family.
Cerena was born at home on Acord Mountain April 7, 1952. Cerena was the youngest of ten children and preceded in death by her parents Dewey Hiram Acord and Oma Edith Acord.
Cerena is also preceded in death by her son Steven Ray Cox, sisters: Shirley Smith, Naomi DorcasAcord and a brother Lewis Acord and several nephews.
Cerena was of Baptist faith and attended Akers Baptist Church in Maple Meadows.
Cerena married the love of her life, Samuel Cox whom she had 51 blissful years with. Cerena and Sam had two sons Steven and Jason Cox.
Cerena is survived by her loving husband Samuel Ray Cox and son Samuel Jason Cox both of Acord Mountain, three sisters Esther Dills, Francie and John Williams, and Wanda Mckinney, three brothers Hiram and Margaret Acord, Wayne and Drema Acord, Charlie and Linda Acord, along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. Cerena had a close best friend Phyllis Saul.
Cerena retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education where she was employed as a cook. Cerena had an infectious smile, laugh, and she never met a stranger. To know her was to instantly love her and her personality. Cerena loved to dance, sing, and listen to country music. Cerena loved to ride ATV's and side by sides with her son Jason, and family and friends. Cerena loved all children and was known as the "baby whisperer". She doted on all of her great and great great nieces and nephews. Cerena also loved camping, fishing, anything outdoors, and loved going yard selling with Alexis Smith.
On January 24, 2024, Samuel and son Jason will be accepting friends and family for visitation at the Melton Mortuary Chapel from 11-1 with the service immediately beginning after . Burial will follow at the Acord Mountain Family Cemetery with dinner to follow at the Akers Baptist Church at Maple Meadows. Pastor Ardith Bailey will be officiating. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
