Charles Benjamin Howard, Jr.

Charles Benjamin Howard Jr., known to all as "Charlie" passed away suddenly on April 24th, at Raleigh General Hospital.
Charlie was born on February 8, 1955 to the late Charles B. Howard, Sr. and the late Janet Ferrell Howard. He was born in Lynn, MA where he grew up and later at the age of 21 he moved to Beckley, WV.
Charlie is preceded in death by his father, mother, and his father-in-law James Pettry. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janie Howard; daughters Angel and Danny Davis of Grandview, Patricia and James Williams of Beckley, and Kara Howard of Beckley; son Justin (Lexie) Howard of Cool Ridge. He also leaves behind his grandchildren who adored him and knew him as Pawpaw Monkey. The grandchildren who are the lights of his life include Hunter and Fisher Williams, Kayla Shrewsbury, Brody and Danni Grace Davis, Peyton, Oakleigh Howard, and bonus grandchildren, Jeremiah and Trinity Helton; mother-in-law Patty Pettry; and a host of extended family, work family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Charlie was of the Baptist faith and when he wasn't working, he attended Akers Baptist Church. He was an avid Patriots fan and supporter. He enjoyed all of his free time with his family, eating out, and especially going on adventures and outings to parks with the love of his life Janie. To know Charlie was to love him. He was a happy, loving, compassionate, and laid back gentleman who everyone loved.
A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at Melton Mortuary on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ardith Bailey officiating. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 11 am - 1 pm. Interment will follow services at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery with Justin Howard, James Williams, Danny Davis, Hunter Williams, Fisher Williams, and Brody Davis serving as pallbearers.
