Charles Ray Lacy Obituary

Charles Ray Lacy, 88, known to many as "Papaw" left us for his heavenly home on Thursday, July 24. He passed peacefully in his sleep and was reunited with his wife of 56 years, Carol Sue, at the gates of Heaven.

Charles was born June 7, 1937 in Glen Daniels, WV to William Earl and Genevive Lacy. He is preceded in death by his siblings Richard, Bill, Leonard, Geraldine, Mary Ellen, Gertrude, and Juanita. Surviving siblings include Bob, Violet, and Frances.

For the last 380 days of his life, he found love and friendship with his extended family at the Raleigh Center in Daniels. He enjoyed his visitors, bird watching, and all the activities at the Center. His favorite time of the day was the 2:00 activities, especially on Bingo day!

Before his stay at the Raleigh Center, he enjoyed his time at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging. He was often found at the puzzle table and known as "Puzzle Man" by the staff and his friends. He loved riding the bus and assisting his favorite driver Ricky with directions on how to drive!

Papaw loved church and he proudly proclaimed his love for the Lord by the ballcaps he wore on his head. He was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church for over 30 years and was a special visitor of Cross Point Church for the past several years. He loved any opportunity he had to worship and sing his favorite hymns. He was proud to faithfully serve the Lord.

Charles retired as a mechanic from Raleigh Ready Mix in 1991. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, family & friend gatherings, coloring, and working on jig saw and word search puzzles. He enjoyed every opportunity he had spending time and making memories with his friends and family.

Children include daughter, Lesa Williams, son, Jeff (Cheryl) Lacy, son Mark (Sandra) Lacy.
Grandchildren include Heather James, Stephanie (Jason) Rubin, Brandon (Missy) Lacy, Chad Williams, Amberly Lacy, Travis (Abby) Lacy and Hunter (Anna) Lacy along with 3 bonus grandchildren, Carissa Abitabilo, and Zane and Elijah Williams.

Great grandchildren include Konner Ray James, Graham Seibert, Wyatt Siebert, Jase Lacy, Jackson Rubin, the Apple of his Eye and his only great granddaughter, Lacy Rubin, along with two bonus great grandchildren Brentley and Kenna Higginbotham.

Many nieces and nephews also survive, as well as special friends Tom and Karen Rubin.

Services will be held at Cross Point Church in Beckley on Thursday, July 31st with Pastor Vondie Cook officiating. Friends may gather from 11:00 am until the start of the Funeral Ceremony at 1:00 pm. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center has the honor of serving the family. Please visit www.meltonmortuary.com <http://www.meltonmortuary.com/> to leave expressions of sympathy or condolences to the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored to receive donations to purchase bird feeders and seed for the Raleigh Center. These items will be shared for the residents to enjoy, just as Charles did. Donations can be made to Lesa Williams by contacting Melton Mortuary.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Raleigh Center for the excellent care they provided and all the love they gave our beloved Dad and Papaw.
