During the early quiet hours of Saturday morning, December 7th, 2019, in the comfort of her home, our most cherished, Cindy Denny passed peacefully into eternity.    She was 64 years of age.

Known affectionately as Cindy all her life, Cynthia Blane Stanley was born on November 4th, 1955, in Beckley. Her parents were John Earl Stanley who died in a mine accident when Cindy was not quite 5 years old and Betty Stroud Stanley Shumate who passed on June 16th, 2011.   Her only sibling, Phillip “Buzzy” Stanley died in 2018.  In addition to her immediate family she was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, John Dell and Dora Snuffer Stanley and Paul and Pearl Stroud.

Cindy spent her childhood on Circle View Drive.  A 1974 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, she had a long time career working for Dr. John Hedrick.   After Dr. Hedrick’s untimely passing she went to work for Jan Care.   Her interests included cooking and baking.  At the end of the day, Cindy’s greatest  passion was her children and grandchildren.   She was all about family.  It is perhaps why she fought so long to live.   Cindy just wanted to know that all her kids would be “ok.”

In 2015, Cindy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.  She would be admitted to Allegheny General Hospital at Pittsburgh where she under-went  a Left Ventricular Assist Procedure for end stage heart failure.   It bought Cindy many months of quality time, and we her family are so thankful.  Recently as her health began to fail, Cindy's spit fire personality was her saving grace.   She fought tremendously to live and did not want to leave this world as she so loved her children and grandchildren.  Her courage, strength and grace was so noble.   She lived these last months of life with purpose and meaning, when she obviously was in a bad place physically.

“If you stumble, make it part of the dance.”   Cindy stumbled many times during these last few months and yet she continued to dance to the tune life.  

Left to love and remember her vibrant spirit are her children and grandchildren.   Cindy leaves Bonnie Brooke Acord and her husband, Danny with whom she made her home; William “Clint” Treadway and his wife, Lydia; and Amanda Belcher and her husband, Jeffrey  “Grandma Cindy” was the proud grandmother of Connor, Cooper, Cloe, Baylee, Brooklyn, Liam, Ruger and Caroline; we would be remiss not to include her sister-in-law, Lynn Stanley and her “special cousin,” Nancy Jane Pugh.   A special thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, the wonderful staff who made home visits, Staci, Regina, Angela, and Melissa. 

At the end of August, Cindy quietly made her plans about leaving.   “No fanfare, no ceremonies.  Keep it simple!”  In keeping with her explicit wishes Cindy has been cremated and there will be no formal services.

”Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try and do the right thing, the dawn will come…”

Cindy’s dawn came on Saturday morning, when she passed in her sleep.  After weeks of a long struggle, She looked beautiful. 

And the words, “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” will have such a different meaning this Christmas.
