Danica Slijepcevic Obituary

On Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, our most cherished, Danica Slijepcevic, affectionately known as "Baba" passed away at Raleigh General Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She was in her 95th year.

Born December 30th, 1929, in Hrtic-Dvor, Yugolslavia, Baba came to the United States in 1971, settling on Hartley Avenue. She was employed by Pine Crest Nursing Home for 16 years. Baba became a naturalized citizen in 1988.

A faithful member of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church for 53 years, Baba loved her church family.

A skilled gardener, an excellent cook, Baba loved sharing both with her family and friends.

Baba was preceded in death by her parents, Ljuban and Jeke Slijcepcevic; sisters, Milka and Sava; husband, Simo and grandson, Daniel.

Left to cherish her memory is her three devoted sons, Mirko (Jane) of Bluffton, South Carolina, Milos of Beverly Hills, Florida and Dan (Lisa) of Nashville, Tennessee; loving grandmother of Nicholas, Allison (Nick), Sam and Jake, she was the proud great grandmother of Lillianna and Nikla.

The funeral will be Monday, October 20th, at 11:30 am in the St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 211 South Heber St., Beckley. Baba will be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park. Baba will lie in repose on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 pm in St. Nicholas. The Trisagion prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Fr. Sam Haddad will be officiating.
