David Brown Obituary

David Joseph Brown, age 70, passed away on November 9, 2022, at his home in Beckley, WV, following a long battle with cancer. Born on September 23, 1952, in Mullens, WV, he was the son of the late Joseph E. Brown and Frances L. Daniels Brown of Oceana, WV and Beckley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law Donnie Hurt and C. K. Caldwell, Jr.


Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Darlene Brown, son Andy Brown and wife Tami of Morgantown, WV, daughter Andrea Horn and husband Rob, and two grandsons, Nathan Horn and Luke Horn, all of Beckley. He is also survived by a sister, Sue Bratton and husband Tom, of Beckley, niece LeAnn Bailey, and nephew Donnie Joe Hurt, sister-in-law Betty Caldwell, of Sanford, NC, nephews Brian Caldwell and wife Karen, of Sanford, NC, and Eric Caldwell of Raleigh, NC, as well as a multitude of friends and relatives.


A member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Beckley, Dave was a born again Christian who served the Lord in all he did. He was a 1970 graduate of Oceana High School and a graduate of Bluefield State College. Dave made many friends while he worked on the preparation plant at Maple Meadow Mining, especially when he loaded coal.


He was a member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge # 95, A F & A M, the Scottish Rite, and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple. Also called Dave, Joe, or David Joe, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first.


A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary in Beckley, with Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with the service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
