David William Smith, 52, of Coal City, WV passed away at Raleigh General Hospital due to complications from Covid on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.
Dave was born on September 9, 1969, in Alexandria, VA to the late William Kelly Smith and the late Nancy Jean Moore Smith.
Dave was a 1987 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology in 1991 from West Virginia University.
Dave was the owner and president of DW Smith, Inc. He provided socially necessary services to children and families in the field of social work.
Dave loved WVU and was a diehard Mountaineer fan. He loved the outdoors, especially backpacking with his friends. Dave enjoyed playing golf and being a part of the activities in which Patrick and Victoria participated.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents William Howard Smith and Floretta Souder Smith of Beckley and his maternal grandparents Matthew “TaTa” Croftcheck and Thelma Haught Croftcheck of Uniontown, PA.
Those left to cherish his memory are the loves of his life, Patrick Pannell Lewis Smith and Victoria Rae Lewis Smith, both of Beckley, WV; his loving sister, Kelly Ann Smith of Beckley; nephews, RJ Bragg of South Korea and Colby Bragg of Beckley; great nephews, Dominic and Mateo Bragg of South Korea; aunt, Cathy Taylor of Beckley; cousin, Tommy Moore, who was more like a brother, of Uniontown, PA and the mother of his children, Traci Lewis of Beckley.
In keeping with Dave’s wishes, his body will be cremated. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Beckley, WV, from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. To honor Dave, please wear your WVU gear and bring your best stories to share.
