David Scott Worley Obituary

A true Renaissance man left this earthly realm Friday, August 16, and is now helping run the sound board for the Angel choir.
David"Scott" Worley was born on January 18, 1963 in Raleigh General Hospital to Basil and Peggy Crysel Worley. He was a Crescent Chipmunk, a Park Roadrunner, and a Flying Eagle. He loved music and excelled in it, playing percussion in junior high and high school bands, and studying music at WVU. He assisted the late Carl Grooms with Woodrow's band for a time during college.
He switched gears and began a banking and marketing career, working for Beckley Federal and becoming partners in a marketing and PR firm. He also worked in the Marketing Department at what was then The College of West Virginia, with his cousins at Worley Management, and later at Southern Communications. He was currently a grant writer at the Mullens Opportunity Center, and had just accepted a second position, as the Executive Director of the WV Collective.
He was very community minded having long been involved with Beckley Events. the Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, and the Historical Society. For years he and his wife gave tours of Wildwood House Museum. He was President of the Beckley Concert Association for several terms, served meals at The Carpenter's Corner for 16 years, and helped organize the annual Christmas parade for decades, beginning when he was a member of the Jaycees.
Scott was the founder of "Haunted Beckley" and his ghost tours become so renowned, he was featured on the syndicated series "Ghost Hunters". He also gave historical and architectural tours of Beckley.
He was an active member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, having served as an Elder and Sound Operator. He also lent his guitar skills to their musical programs.
He loved music and was an avid album collector. He also played guitar and was a drummer in marching band. Scott was a history buff, enjoying trips to Colonial Williamsburg and the Outer Banks. He preferred to stay behind the scenes in art presentations, but he was once convinced to portray "Mr. Fezziwigg" in "A Christmas Carol."
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Peggy Worley; grandparents Lee and Eula Crysal and Basil G. and Beulah Worley; stillborn brother Todd Harrison; brother-in-law T. Michael Martin; great niece Chloe Keffer; and numerous aunts and uncles, including Bill and Doralee Sargent, to whom he was very close.
He is survived by his wife Cindy; sister Beverly Keffer and her companion, Scott Tuttle: nephews Sean Worley, Todd Keffer, Andy Martin; nieces Abby Martin and Debbie Workman; cousins Rick, Becky, Amanda, and Joey Severino; cousins Danny (Jo), Bobby, and Gary Worley; and and his fuzzy babies, Dudley, Fozzie, and Izzy.
Per his wishes, Scott was cremated, and his ashes will be scattered mostly at the Outer Banks, with some in the Beckley Presbyterian Church's Memory Garden. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, August 29 at 1 pm in the Beckley Presbyterian Church friends will be received at 12:00 noon, with a reception following at the Beckley Woman's Club.
