Denny "Chico" Carico, age 80, of Bolt, West Virginia, passed away, peacefully, free from pain at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 after a battle with a chronic illness.
Denny was born June 9, 1946 in Fries, Virginia, a son of Hoke Carico and Magdalene Hendricks Carico.
Denny moved to West Virginia for work, and eventually settled at Elk Run Coal Company as a Diesel Mechanic; earning the nickname "Chico". He built his career there over many years before an injury made him unable to continue working.
If there was one thing people knew about Denny; it was that he was a hard worker. He gave everything he did 100 percent and still gave more. You always knew what you were getting when you worked with Denny. He was tough and expected the same from those working around him.
Denny was a simple man who loved his family; and once upon a time loved racing mud trucks, rebuilding cars/trucks, hunting, working with his horses and farming. He was a man who always stayed busy.
He leaves a legacy of hard work, devotion, and faith. His family loved him for the man that he was and rejoice knowing that his faith has now become sight; he is home with Jesus in Heaven.
Denny is proceeded in death by his parents, Hoke Carico and Magdelene Hendricks Carico; son, Tim "TT" Carico, brother David Carico; and sister, Lisa Carico.
Those left to cherish Denny's memory are his children, Jimmy (Yulanda) Carico, Shawn Carico, Buster Carico ( Sarah), Kristi Helmer (Bryan); grandchildren, Jaimee Carico, Shailyn Sloan, Cruize Carico, Parker Carico, Kaiden Helmer, Sophi Carico and Ryleigh Helmer; great-grandchildren, Axel, Della, Everlee, Zaylee, and Hayze; brothers, Danny Carico and Gary Carico; sister, Patti Russell; special friend, Marilyn Carico; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who miss and love him.
