Earl Wesley Arbaugh, age 94, of Mabscott, West Virginia, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at his home in Mabscott.
Earl was born October 29, 1930 in Blakers Mill, West Virginia, a son of Joseph Walter Arbaugh and Viola Catherine Jones. He graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1950 and was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and attended Concord College. He played football for Concord and met the love of his life on a blind date when Concord played football at the old WWHS, which is now Park Middle School. He met Betty Coralee Ferguson and they married on December 22, 1956. Earl was a talented athlete and a good student, earning a bachelor's degree in Education. Earl and Betty moved to Mabscott and had three daughters: Cathy, Cynthia, and Sandra. Earl taught Social Studies at Stoco High School and coached basketball and football. The 1966 Stoco yearbook, The Wigwam, was dedicated to him. He also taught at Independence High School and served as Athletic Director.
Earl was a faithful member of the Mabscott United Methodist Church. He loved to fish and had many good fishing buddies throughout the years. He grew vegetables for many years in his gardens and was an excellent carpenter.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Kelly of Sophia, WV and Cynthia Chromek of New Bern, NC along with 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, February 14th from 11:00 - 1:00 at Melton's in Beckley. Service will be held immediately after with Reverend Don Stilgenbauer officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Pall Bearers will be Michael Davis, Wesley Davis, Jacob Kelly, and David Simmons.
