Ernest Eubank Obituary

Ernest Wayne Eubank, 88, of Glen Daniel, WV passed away on June 17, 2021.

He passed away in Bower’s House of Hospice, following a short illness.

Ernest Wayne “Big Chew” Eubank was born in Covington, Virginia on October 23, 1932, to Clifford McCutcheon and Susie Alice (Adkins) Eubank. He was the eldest of 3 children, Clifford Eubank, Jr. (Sonny) and Carol Jean (Farris) Garber, and spent most of his teenage years with his grandmother, Edith Eubank.

Always having a love for music and being blessed with a beautiful bass voice, he studied music until answering the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force.  It was not too long before being shipped off to Asia that he met a gorgeous brown-headed and green-eyed lady, Betty June Furey, that he made his wife, and was married to for 69 years on June 8, 2021. They quickly became a family of four with the addition of their two children, Gary Wayne Eubank, and Karen Elaine (Eubank) Acord.

A man of many talents and a Jack of all trades, Ernest Wayne, was a welder, mechanic, body fender man, coal temple operator, and guitar-playing character that loved telling stories and made friends wherever he went. He was a member of Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and generally loved studying his Bible and Biblical history.  In his later years of retirement, you would see him out taking care of his perfectly manicured, green lawn that he took great pride in maintaining, and was the envy of most homeowners.  He would also love to load up the big 5th wheeled camper with Mom, and take an adventure around the US in his essential cowboy hat.  No matter where he went or what he was doing… jawing at the local garage, discussing the Masonic Lodge, sitting at the campground, or raising money for the Shriners, he was filled with the tall tales of his life, enjoying life and loving others in his sometimes gruff but funny manner.

He was a man unlike any other, and he left behind so many family, friends, and loved ones.  He is survived by his loving wife Betty June (Furey) Eubank, son Gary Wayne Eubank, daughter, Karen Elaine (Eubank) Acord, and son-in-law Alan Russell Acord. The apple of his eyes were his grandchildren Samantha Acord, Christopher Acord (Nikki), Tammy Eubank, Jordan Brown and wife, Carol and Angie Hecker.  However, nothing was greater than those great-grandchildren, Lena and Ellie Dean, and our little guy, Miles Acord.  He left behind his younger brother, Clifford Eubank, Jr. (Dorcas) and sister, Carol Jean Garber, and numerous nieces and nephews that are going to miss their Uncle Wayne.

We will not say goodbye but instead see you later because one day we will draw our last breath and step into eternity, and believe you will be waiting just on the other side.

The service for Mr. Eubank will be held at Melton’s Mortuary on June 22, 2021, with visitation at 12:00 PM and service at 1:00 PM with military honors.  Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the medical staff of Raleigh General Hospital and Bower’s House of Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
