Ethel Ericksen Milam

1941 - 2021

Norfolk, VA

Ethel Ericksen Milam was born on December 17, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York to her parents Leonard and Catherine (O'friel) Ericksen.  She gained her Heavenly wings on April 21, 2021 in Beckley, West Virginia at the age of 79.

Ethel is preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Douglas Harmon Milam; parents Leonard and Catherine Ericksen; brother Lee Ericksen; and her son-in-law Bo Kitchens.  Those left to cherish her memory include her son Rickie Dale (Laurie) Milam of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters Debbie Lee Kitchens of Suffolk, VA and Rose Marie (David) Spangler of Gloucester, VA; 5 grandchildren Doug Kitchens, Niki (Travis) McCrea, Ashley Kitchens, Samuel Milam, and Lexi Bay Spangler; great-grandchildren Zaylie Kitchens, Tayela Kitchens, Rylee Kitchens, Xaybriel McCrea, Merida Kitchens, Niklaus McCrea, Zeppelin Kitchens, and twins MaGarrett Leo and Zevelyn Ethel Kitchens; and 2 nieces Sandy and Sherry Ericksen.

Ethel was a fun loving giving person with a heart of gold.  She loved her family, traveling and having adventures while fishing and taking pictures of her memories to share with friends and loved ones.  She was always ready to lend a helping hand.  Never afraid to make a new friend or ask someone for help.  Her sweet kind nature was what everyone fell in love with and what her family will hold in their hearts forever.  While following thru with a promise to deliver clothing and other household goods to an area of need, she succumbed to her lung disease.  Because Ethel was such a sweet and kind person, it was her honor to be able to help give the gift of life to others after her passing by donation.

Per Ethel's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center.  There will be no scheduled services.  Words of comfort may be offered to the family by visiting

Ethel was my neighbor when I lived in Norfolk.  We always enjoyed each other's company and Ethel was always giving gifts to the ones she felt a special bond with.  She loved my dog Gino and was always making sure I had treats available for him by supplying me with bags of treats.  Ethel was a good women all the way around.  My sympathy to her family.  We will truly miss you Ethel.  You are no longer in any pain and am grateful for that.

She was a loving mother and did anything to help her children. I’m so glad I was fortunate to see and talk to her after so many years. Her laugh was so contagious. Such a sweet, kind and loving person. Heaven received an Angel. She was a role model that we all strive to be here on earth. Rest In Peace sweet lady.
