Evelyn Ayers, age 85, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Bowers Hospice House surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born August 9, 1939 in Sikeston, Missouri, a daughter of Ben Sullivan and Mildren Brown. Evelyn married the love of her life, Charley "Tootie" A. Ayers and they spent many wonderful years together before his passing.

Evelyn was of the Baptist faith and attended many churches over the years.

She enjoyed her volunteer work at Raleigh General Hospital. Evelyn spent many years training the new hires. She was also part-owner of the bar, TJ's where she worked as a bartender.

Evelyn was a devoted mother and loved her family. She was also a dog-mother to her sweet baby Angel who is greeting her at the Rainbow Bridge.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charley "Tootie" Ayers; her parents; her son, Charley "Chuck" Ayers Jr; brothers, sisters, and other family members.

She is survived by daughter, Mylinda (Gary) Elkins; Son, Paul (Nora) Nafzger; brothers, William "Robert" Smith and Johnny Ray Smith; Sister, Thelma Gulley; grandchild, Carl "Andy" (Erin Dixon) Sawyers, Brian Nafzger, and Jeffrey Nafzger; great-grandchild, Serenity Grace Sawyers; bonus-grandchildren, Olivia (Mike) Elkins Mayo and Chris Elkins; and a number of great-grandchildren and bonus-great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025, 11:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Park. The Burial will follow the service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband. They will be together forever.
