Gloria Gail Bartlett graciously ended her struggles at the Bowers Hospice House after an extended illness Jan 22, 2025. Gloria was born in Beckley to Earl and Sarah Arthur and lived her most recent years with surviving sister Carrie Wray on Maxwell Hill in Beckley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, David Arthur and sister, Norma Gunter.
Gloria met Fred, who was in the Army, while they both worked in Washington DC. After dating awhile, they were married and stationed in Orleans, France for 3 years. After leaving the Army, they decided to settle in Pond Hill, PA to raise a family, which was half way between Fred's family in New England and Gloria's family in West Virginia. She retired from the Mellon Bank Trust Division in 2007 then returned to Beckley in 2017.
Survivors include sister, Carrie Wray of Beckley; sons Todd Bartlett (wife Debra) of NC, Kevin Bartlett (wife Carla) of Grandview, Matt Bartlett of Beckley and daughter, Andrea Smith (husband Tom) of PA, six grand-children and 6 great grand-children.
Visitation to honor Gloria Gail Bartlett, 82, of Beckley will be from 3-4 PM, followed by a memorial service on Tuesday, Jan 28th at the Melton Mortuary Chapel, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, WV 25801 with Reverend Doc Adkins officiating. She will be permanently interred with her husband, Frederick W. Bartlett II at the Arlington National Cemetery in the future.
The family wishes to thank the many family and friends for their kindness and support, as well as the staff at the Hilltop Nursing Center and at the Bowers Hospice House of Southern WV for their kindness and the dedicated care provided.
