Hazel Nolan Obituary

Hazel Evelyn Nolan (Barnett) 1938-2020, 82 of Midway, WV, passed away on July 20, 2020.  Hazel was born a coal miner’s daughter on January 3, 1938 in Winding Gulf, WV.  She lived in Midway for the majority of her life.  She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Hazel was employed by Hills’ Dept. Store for many years until she retired, but she wasn’t finished yet.  She began working at Walmart soon after retiring from Hills’.  She worked in the deli for many years until she became the face of Walmart as a people greeter.  She liked to tell the story of stopping a shoplifter with her walker.  Her heart was truly blessed by the children who would come to Walmart to get their sucker that she kept in the pocket of her work vest.  She retired from Walmart in November 2018 with 25 years of service.

Hazel was an animal lover.  She always had a critter around.  From birds and fish to ferrets and cats and dogs.  She loved them all.  She loved to crochet and gifted her beautiful afghans to many.  She also loved to collect dolls and the color pink.

Our dear Mother was preceded in death by her parents, Neta B. Barnett (Shrewsberry) and Jessie Walker Barnett; her husband, Franklin Hill Nolan, Sr.; a son, Franklin Hill Nolan, Jr.; a brother, Jessie Walker Barnett, Jr.; and a sister, Marie Barnett Richardson.  She is survived by her remaining children; Rona Nolan Brammer (Kieth) of Big Island, VA and Lee Nolan, of Midway, WV; siblings: Josephine Barnett Lafferty (Roscoe) of Hurricane, WV; Joseph Wayne Barnett (Linda) of Midway; James William Barnett (Drema) of Midway, WV; granddaughters: Samantha Nolan Kunz (Gerhard) of Germany and Breanna Nolan of Soak Creek, WV; grandsons; Jochen Manners of Germany, Robert Manners of Germany, Eric Wayne Fink; Tyler Joseph Fink and Robert Anthony Fink, all of Soak Creek, WV; great grandchildren: Vivien and Leander (Samantha); Michael (Breanna); Zachary, Ariana, and Isabella (Eric); Tyler aka, Peanut, Stephanie Hope (Tyler); Braylon, Hunter, and Ariella (Robert).  A special granddaughter, Katie, who she chose with her heart; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service to celebrate our Mother will be held at 4 P.M. on Sunday July 26th, 2020 at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 P.M. until the time of service on Sunday.
