Helen Brooks

On Monday, September 20th, 2021, Helen Brooks went to see her Lord and Savior.  She had just recently celebrated her 98th birthday on August 30th.

The second of three children, Helen Virginia White was born in 1923, at Jewell Ridge, Virginia she was the daughter of Milburn Crockett White and Rosa Maude White Shaw.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Homer and Emory White, her stepfather, Ellis C. Shaw and her step sister, Marie Shaw.

Helen spent her childhood at Glen Rogers, where she graduated from Glen Rogers, High School in 1941.  She would marry her beloved husband, Randolph Brooks on February 25th, 1945.  She and Randall settled in Logan County where they resided for 35 years.  In 1968, they came to Beckley.  Helen and Randolph became members of the Church of God Family Worship Center in 1970.  Anyone that ever encountered Randolph and Helen knew they were devoted to each other.   Randolph passed on September 8th, 2007, and now, “Oh Glad Reunion.”

Left to cherish her memory include her nieces, Pamela Dixon, Peggy Irvin, Patricia Furr, Gina Wilson and Rebecca Andree; her only nephew, Emory Carl White Jr., has passed.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, she is to have a committal service in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.  This service will be Monday, September 27th at 12 noon with honorary pallbearer, James "Junior" Sanger. Pastor Luke Hodges will be officiating.  Friends and family may pay their respects to Helen from 10:30 to 11:30am on Monday at the Melton Mortuary.   Those wishing to attend the committal services are asked to be at the mortuary by 11:30 am. A most heartfelt thanks to Rosie Lindsey, Helen's guardian angel throughout these final years of her life. A special thank you to the long-term caregivers, Home Hospice and Hospice House for the great care she received.
